Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika Mandanna Head to KWK 9

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna will make their first joint appearance as a married couple on Koffee With Karan Season 9, in the show's second episode on Oct. 21. A promo released on Oct. 18 has already made the rounds.

What the promo shows

DNA India describes the promo as follows. Karan Johar asks whether there was a proposal before the couple decided to marry. Rashmika shakes her head, and Vijay says, "She was like, 'Let's get married.' I was like, 'Okay, you have asked me a 100 times.'" Karan asks Rashmika if that is true, and she says, "I asked him for an entire year." Vijay adds a joke, using a mild expletive, that he is not a bad guy, and the trio laugh. The promo is edited for effect, and the full conversation may give more context.

In the rapid-fire round, Rashmika picks her Pushpa co-star Allu Arjun over her Animal co-star Ranbir Kapoor. When Karan asks Vijay who besides Rashmika has the best chemistry with him, she cuts in with "Nobody." Vijay replies, "Rule no. 101 of marriage: Always agree with the wife."

Who they are

DNA India reports that this is Rashmika's debut on the show. Vijay was previously on Season 7 with his Liger co-star Ananya Panday. The couple married at an intimate ceremony at Mementos by ITC Hotels, Ekaaya Udaipur, on Feb. 26, per DNA. They worked together on Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade and were most recently together in Ranabaali, which released on Oct. 16.

Ranabaali's weekend

Ranabaali stars Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika Mandanna and Arnold Vosloo and is directed by Rahul Sankrityan, according to the tracker Box Office India 24. India TV, citing Sacnilk, reports that the film collected Rs 7.30 crore net in India on its second day, taking its total to Rs 16.55 crore net, and that its worldwide gross reached Rs 26.65 crore. Mid-day says viewers praised the pair's chemistry and dialogues while criticising the screenplay, pace and background score. Numbers vary by tracker, and Box Office India 24 lists a lower early total.

The season so far

Season 9 is billed as the final season. The premiere on Oct. 14 had Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor, and Karan Johar said on it that he is not coming back, according to the Sunday Guardian. New episodes drop on Wednesdays at 7 PM on JioHotstar. India Today's review of the premiere called the show tired, so the couple's episode will be judged against a lukewarm start.

Why promos are not the episode

Koffee promos are cut to feature the funniest ten seconds of an hour. A line like Vijay's can sound sharper or softer in context. Rashmika's pick of Allu Arjun, similarly, is one rapid-fire answer and not a statement about anyone's performance. We will cover the full episode after it streams.
